I recently had the honor of attending the 2018 Employees' Choice Awards presentation - as a member of a winning company!
Hosted by the Ottawa Board of Trade and the Ottawa Business Journal, the Employees' Choice Awards recognize companies where people like to work, based on employee feedback. An anonymous, multi-question survey asked questions like: Do you feel like your contributions at work matter? Do you feel engaged? Do you feel like management cares what you have to say?
InGenius was in the running in the National Capital Region, in a pool of for-profit companies, non-profits and government entities. By virtue of our founder Rich and CEO Dale, as well as the team they've put together, InGenius ended up in the top 10!
We were in good company with the other winners, including 4 who also call Kanata North home. Congratulations to Crank Software, Decisive Technologies, Dilfo Mechanical, The Fireplace Center & Patio Shop, Fusebill, Keynote Group, Martello, Rewind, and SOLINK for also being recipients.
The InGenius team has always billed itself as a team of smart people who like to develop great software and have fun doing it. Work life here is structured around equality, ethics and mutual respect for employees, customers and partners. That's all easy to claim, but my experience here so far has matched exactly that.
InGenius holds regular What's Happening meetings to keep the entire company in the loop, and also regular team outings to movies and activities like go-karting and axe throwing. It's not uncommon to walk into the kitchen to see Timbits, fruit, cookies or homemade baking that someone has brought in to share. We have corporate teams for softball, dodgeball and curling, and an area to decompress with foosball or darts. All of that is possible because of our company culture - smart people that work hard and have fun. There's a real sense of teamwork and open communication.
Winning the Employees' Choice Awards is a sign management has got it right. As Maya Roscoe, our newest Senior Account Manager, told the Ottawa Business Journal at the awards presentation, "I felt confident joining InGenius after hearing nothing but positive feedback about the workplace culture from several other employees. I think it's very well deserved."
